In this episode, I sit down with award-winning personal trainer, author, and former addict, Doug Bopst as he lets us in on his difficult journey through addiction and recovery. Addiction is one of the leading causes of depression and anxiety across the globe. Join us as we discuss the impact drugs, alcohol, and addiction has on a person's mental and physical health, while also learning why it's so important to take charge of your own decisions for thriving wellbeing. Plus, we take a look at some of the exact steps you can take to break the cycle of addiction and find your own recovery victory story.

Doug Bopst is an award-winning personal trainer, author of three books, and host of the Adversity Advantage Podcast on a crusade to inspire others to overcome adversity and become the best version of themselves. He is a former convicted felon and drug addict who spent time in jail for “possession with intent to sell.” While locked in a cell, Doug slayed his personal demons, kicked addiction, and reinvented himself. As a matter of fact, he hasn’t touched drugs since the day he was incarcerated in 2008.

Bopst has appeared on NBC’s ‘Today Show,’ Men’s Health, Forbes, Rich Roll’s podcast, Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu, The Skinny Confidential Him and Her podcast, Bulletproof Radio with Dave Asprey, The Be Well By Kelly podcast with Kelly LeVeque and more.

“From Felony to Fitness to Free,” a short documentary about His story, has been screened at The Reel Recovery Film Festival in Los Angeles and New York City.

A few of my favorite things we cover this episode:

  • How Doug’s difficult journey through his youth hindered his health and instilled many negative permutations in his life
  • All about Doug’s incarceration experience and what he was able to do to reclaim his life choices
  • What recovery looks like - and how each venture is individual to the person undergoing sobriety
  • The steps that you need to take when wanting to regain your life for optimal health and wellness
