In this episode I'm joined by founder of clean beauty and self-care platform, Maed, Denise Vasi. Born out of her own search for answers around health and wellness during her first pregnancy, Vasi created Maed as a community for women of all ages and backgrounds to get answers to all their questions. Through her personal wellness evolution, she shows us the importance of teaching your children about nutrition and gives up pro-tips for clean eating for the entire family. Plus, we dive into the misrepresentation of women of color in the wellness world and what that can look like moving forward to make this community more inclusive. We also debunk the misconceptions surrounding clean beauty and why it is so important to pay attention to the products we use on a daily basis.

Brooklyn-native and Los Angeles-based Denise Vasi is the founder of Maed. Denise first became known by many for her high-profile modeling and acting career, but the mother of two has also organically built an inclusive digital community. In 2018, Denise launched the online resource, Maed, which focuses on clean beauty, self-care and mindful life-balance for women who find themselves juggling life. Since launching Maed, Denise has exponentially grown her close-knit audience with her well-informed clean beauty recommendations, health and wellness routines, and self-care rituals.

A few of my favorite things we cover this episode:

  • Her transition out of veganism and how surprisingly easy it was.
  • The importance of making conscious decisions and constantly checking in with yourself when it comes to nutrition choices.
  • Parenting pro-tips for clean eating and how to get the entire family on board.
  • The importance of teaching your children about nutrition and food sourcing to empower them to make the best decisions for themselves.
  • Her evolution in defining wellness, which is now drastically different from what she once thought it was.
  • The origin of Maed, the social platform she created for information around clean beauty and self-care.
  • Home-birth and seeing the process as the connection of mind, body, and spirit.
  • The importance of advocating for yourself and your health, especially for women.
  • The prevalence of misrepresentation for women of color in the wellness world.
  • All things clean beauty, and why what you put onto your skin matters just as much as what you put into your body.
  • The various “levels” of clean beauty, which can be incredibly different in countries outside of the US, and how to find the best products for your individual needs.
