Before we got into this one, my team and I spent a solid five minutes arguing about whether we watch or just listen to podcasts (I'm an Apple Podcasts guy; apparently Andrea would rather watch a documentary than listen to anything, and keeps a note in her phone tracking every TV show she and her husband watch and when the next season drops - which, for the record, is why I trust her with my passport when we travel). Then we played a game trying to guess where our first question-asker, Lydia, was from just from her voice. We landed on Nova Scotia. We were wrong about almost everything else - we had her pegged for a Hallmark-movie lumberjack romance - but it set the tone for a fun one.

Lydia works in a gift shop and wanted real-world, low-cost ways to support her detoxification system without the budget or time for an advanced protocol. My answer: it doesn't have to be complicated. Open the exits first - one to three bowel movements a day, good hydration with a whole-food electrolyte source (sodium, potassium, and magnesium tell water where to go), 25 to 40 grams of fiber, and sweat. Then build your own glutathione, your body's master antioxidant, with sulfur-rich foods like broccoli sprouts (which can raise detox capacity for things like benzene by over 60%), onions, garlic, and eggs. Andrea added something I don't think enough people consider: thermal receipt paper. If your workplace doesn't offer emailed or texted receipts, that warm paper you're handed all day is a real source of exposure - and something as simple as choosing a digital receipt, or picking up fresh air during a break, costs nothing.

Lauren's question hit closer to home for a lot of our listeners: she's doing everything right - diet changes, supplements, red light, sauna — and still getting five to ten migraines a month. Migraines are, at their core, usually a brain energy problem with a mitochondrial component, so I'd start there: a magnesium, riboflavin (B2), and CoQ10 stack. The data on this is genuinely good - 600 milligrams of magnesium cut migraine frequency by 42% versus 16% for placebo, and riboflavin showed over 50% fewer attacks in 59% of people versus 15% on placebo in one landmark trial. But the part I want people to hear most carefully is what comes after that: keep a trigger journal tracking food, sleep, stress, your cycle, weather, and travel, and don't skip the histamine and hormone piece - there's a real clinical overlap between migraines, histamine intolerance, and mast cell activation. And don't skip the nervous system either. If your body doesn't feel safe, chronic pain, including migraines, can be one of the ways it tells you.

Our last question came from Vanessa, who does an annual whole-body Prenuvo scan and started a microdose of a GLP-1 for a few stubborn pounds - only to have her next scan show an enlarged pancreatic duct, which resolved a month later after she stopped the medication. Her gastroenterologist didn't think the two were connected, and the research actually backs that up: a 2024 meta-analysis of 21 trials and roughly 35,000 people found no increased rate of acute pancreatitis with GLP-1 use. What's more likely at play is rapid weight loss itself, which is a known, independent risk factor for pancreatic duct and stone issues - and a microdose, used the way she used it, makes that a smaller risk still. My honest take: you did the right thing by retesting and listening to your gut, and if you want more data points going forward, something like an InBody or DEXA scan alongside Prenuvo gives you other markers to watch without hanging everything on one finding.

Keep sending us your questions at speakpipe.com/drwillcole - Lydia, we may genuinely turn your life into a movie.

A few of my favorite things we cover in this episode:

  • Low-cost, practical detox tips for everyday exposure (Lydia's question)
  • Why hydration, electrolytes, and fiber are detox's biggest levers
  • Broccoli sprouts and building your own glutathione
  • The hidden microplastic risk in thermal receipt paper
  • A root-cause approach to chronic migraines (Lauren's question)
  • The magnesium, riboflavin (B2), and CoQ10 stack, and the data behind each
  • Migraine triggers most people miss: histamine, hormones, nervous system, trauma
  • GLP-1s and an enlarged pancreatic duct found on a Prenuvo scan (Vanessa's question)
  • What the actual GLP-1/pancreatitis research shows
  • Rapid weight loss as the more likely explanation than the GLP-1 itself
