Three segments this AMA. Two clinical questions, one book launch, and one unforgettable beta fish.
We started with Heal Your Cells, the new book I wrote with Dr. Josh Axe that's out right now. The subtitle - Reversing the Irreversible - is the one the publishers pushed back on, and I can see why it sounds bold. But when you look at the Stanford study showing that one in five people have an organ aging faster than their others, and that accelerated heart aging carries a 250% increased risk of cardiac events, and that this is largely driven by epigenetics - by the things we eat, the stress we carry, the toxins we're exposed to — the word "reversible" isn't generous. It's accurate. We also got into the 2026 Nature Medicine study showing millennials are aging faster than 1965-born people at the same age. Common, not normal. That's the whole book in two sentences.
The first question was from a mom with a 4-year-old twin boy who has level 2 autism and cold urticaria - hives that appear when his skin is exposed to cold air or room-temperature tap water. She mentioned he's a twin born at 31 weeks, both spent time in the NICU, both received antibiotics, but his sister developed differently. She picked up on something really important there: this is pointing toward epigenetics over genetics. Same starting conditions, different outcomes — which means lifestyle, gut health, toxin exposure, and nervous system regulation are the variables that matter. The 75% of the immune system that lives in the gut is a good starting point for why that matters clinically. We talked through quercetin, luteolin, DAO enzyme, stinging nettle, vitamin C - the natural mast cell stabilizers - and how to prepare low-histamine bone broth for a picky eater (short cook it, freeze it fast, keep it under six hours).
The second was from Zoe, 23, with wart-like growths covering her knuckles and fingers for about two years - raised, pinkish, rough, no pain, no itching, and she's understandably self-conscious. We started with what warts are really telling us: usually a viral immune issue, most commonly HPV, but the bigger question is always why the immune system isn't calming it down. HLA gene variants, underlying nutrient deficiencies, chronic stress, an impaired gut - all of these create the environment where a virus gets to stay at low grade rather than being handled. The outside-in approach: salicylic acid (BHA) topically has about 70% improvement data, file gently first, then tea tree, garlic paste, bee propolis, Manuka honey. The inside-out approach: zinc glycinate, herbal antivirals, vitamin D, magnesium, and consistency for longer than 10 days. Andrea also asked whether the location - only her knuckles - points to something she's regularly touching. Good question. We didn't have the answer. Zoe does.
A few of my favorite things we cover in this episode:
- Heal Your Cells origin: the Stanford study finding 1 in 5 people have one organ aging faster than others — 250% increased heart failure risk, 80% increased neurodegenerative risk
- Why publishers didn't want the subtitle "Reversing the Irreversible" — and why Dr. Cole and Dr. Axe kept it anyway
- The 2026 Nature Medicine study: people born after 1965 aging faster every decade — millennials aging faster than 1965 at the same age
- Cold urticaria in a 4-year-old twin with level 2 autism: hives from cold air and room-temp water — the mast cell and histamine dysregulation underneath
- The twin insight: born at 31 weeks, same NICU experience, same antibiotics — but one child developed differently, pointing toward epigenetics over genetics
- Why 75% of the immune system lives in the gut — and why gut health is the first place to look in any immune dysregulation case
- Quercetin and luteolin as natural mast cell stabilizers — with DAO enzyme, stinging nettle, and vitamin C
- Low-histamine bone broth: short-cook (4–6 hours, not 12–72), freeze immediately, the difference between triggering and healing
- Warts on the knuckles of a 23-year-old: a skin check engine light for a viral immune system issue — most likely HPV, but worth ruling out other viruses
- Salicylic acid (BHA) has 70%+ improvement data for warts — file gently first, apply consistently
- Tea tree oil, garlic paste, bee propolis, and Manuka honey (topically and orally) for viral skin support
- Zinc glycinate, herbal antivirals, and basic nutrient deficiencies (vitamin D, K2, magnesium) as the inside-out approach
- Skin warts are opportunistic — stress and other underlying drivers allow them to thrive
- Frankincense topically as an often-overlooked tool for skin immune support
- Huffle the fish, the office mold, and what they have to do with each other
