Many people want to know what “diet” we give people or what “supplements” we use. It’s a common question, but one that does not reflect the seriousness of what we do and what those things actually are.
When people refer to a diet, they often times are referring to the second definition: a special course of food to which one restricts oneself, to lose weight. When we talk about diet we are referring to the original definition: the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats. We are creating habits, lifestyle, and health changes that carry a person throughout their lifetime.

FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE CONSULTATIONS FOR PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD
Our protocols that we put in place as far as food medicine plans go, are individualized to meet patient’s needs. What is seemingly healthy for one person isn’t necessarily for another. As I’ve discussed in a previous blog post we offer a variety of different tests to determine what the best approach is for patients. We often run Cyrex labs to help customize a food protocol. The Wheat/Gluten Proteome Reactivity & Autoimmunity test, Gluten-Associated Cross-Reactive Foods and Foods Sensitivity test, and Multiple Food Immune Reactivity Screen test are all extremely helpful. Many people are trying to do the right thing, and are eating things they think are helpful but in reality are not good for their own biology. That is where those tests come into play, in helping us develop programs based on your own biochemistry.
Also there is a lot of misinformation out there in regards to the next best fad diet, as well as what you grow up learning to be ‘healthy’ and ‘unhealthy’. A lot of what people are taught is antiquated science; things we know are no longer the truth with so much new information available to us. Our goal is always to find what works best for you! There isn’t a special food that works for everyone. We have many options to put into place in regards to health dietary protocols. Whether you are dealing with a gut condition, brain issues, autoimmune disease, thyroid dysfunction or hormonal problem there is so much available and so much research and science into finding a protocol that not only promotes getting healthy, but staying that way sustainably.
Not only with diets, but also natural medicines, people are often misinformed. There are so many variables to consider when it comes to natural medicines. Even with natural things, what works for one person may not be right for you.
When people are asking us what “diet” or “supplements” we recommend, they are missing the point. There is no magic pill, no special diet, just specialized, customized protocols. Each person is unique and we stand by that there are no quick fixes and that’s why we think functional medicine is really the best route when looking for long term, sustainable health.
