The elimination diet is something that has made a huge impact on my health. It not only helped me overcome my adrenal fatigue, it also helped soothe my digestive problems and cleared my skin. Since then it has become one of my favorite tools that I use to help my patients in my functional medicine clinic. These are some of the amazing ways an elimination diet can help you restore your health:
1. It is one of the best ways to discover your food intolerances.
An elimination diets removes the foods most likely to irritate your body and contribute to chronic inflammation and focuses on nutrient-dense foods such as vegetables, fruits, healthy fats, and meats all for a period of 60 days. Once you start reintroducing foods you’ll be able to see exactly which foods aggravate your body.
2. It can restore your energy and overall vitality.
Hippocrates said “let food be thy medicine and medicine thy food,” and the elimination diet focuses on the most nutrient-dense foods giving your body exactly what it needs to calm inflammation and encourage overall healing.
3. It’s comprised of filling food.

4. The food is easy to make.
One common concern about healthy eating is that cooking is going to take forever. However, eating on the elimination diet is very simple. In my video course I even provide a food list and meal plan guide to help you feel confident starting out on your elimination diet.
5. It’s not about dieting.
The word “diet” in our modern culture, has been made synonymous with “dieting,” or restricting foods to lose weight instead of a rational, healthy way of eating. The elimination diet is not about dieting!
We need to ditch dieting and get healthy. Instead of thinking we need to lose weight to get healthy, we need to get healthy to lose weight. If we get healthy, we will look great on accident. A natural by-product of radiant health.
6. You don’t have to count calories or points.
Because the elimination diet is not about “dieting,” you eat until you are full! What a wonderfully liberating way to live life! Your body is intelligently designed, listen to it. If you are chewing slowly on filling, nutrient dense foods, your brain will tell your body when it’s full. Simple as that.
7. It works to heal your gut.
Hippocrates, the father of medicine once said “all disease begins in the gut.” Even if you don’t have typical digestive symptoms, your gut influences all aspects of your health including your hormones, immune system, and brain. You can finally start to heal from these issues by healing your gut with powerful food medicines and avoiding foods that destroy your gut.
8. It allows you to customize a food plan that works for your body.
When you start reintroducing foods you’ll not only discover food intolerances but you’ll also find out which foods give you the most energy and leave you feeling the best. Knowing exactly which foods your body thrives on will give you a sustainable way of eating for the rest of your life.
